Black lives matter
The last few weeks have been really important in this history of United States. The Black Lives Matter movement got a renewed focus after the senseless killing of George Floyd. It is a deeply saddening thing that such killings are the everyday experiences of Black folks and America is waking up to the horrors endured by the Black community. Systemic racism is very deeply rooted and needs systematic action to dismantle police brutality and sub-conscious bias. I do hope the Black community gets to live normal lives, just like everyone else, and that they experience justice and fairness.
The following are the videos that were very educational to me and spoke right to the heart of the matter.
- Emmanuel Acho on Uncomforatable Conversations with a Black man
- Trevor Noah on the dominos of Racial injustice
- John Oliver on police brutality
I liked how Trevor Noah put the rioting in the context of the social contract being broken for black people for centuries. And the part in John Oliver’s video where the black woman exclaims “You are lucky black people want equality and not revenge”. Oh wow, yes. How deep!
If you have the emotional and mental bandwidth, please watch those videos and educate yourself.
