Learning the Hindi language, one day at a time
Recently, I achieved a nice milestone in the Duolingo app: I have spent time learning Hindi for 100 consecutive days 🎉. Of my several attempts at learning Hindi (watching movies, friends trying to teach me), this one using Duolingo has been the one where I made the most progress.
I like the approach that Duolingo uses: gentle introduction to simple words, multiple contexts where those words are used and periodic repetition to reinforce what we learnt. Each lesson is small enough that spending just a few minutes provides a sense of accomplishment while ensuring you genuinely learn something small and new.
To date, I have learnt 271 new words, over 100+ days, spending a total of 879 minutes. Here is the Duolingo 2020 report of my progress. While I have been able to understand many of the language basics, there are still several grammatical concepts that trip me up. I hope to keep up the streak and eventually get fluent in the language. Being able to understanding others speaking Hindi and communicating back is my goal 😃
